Where the census comes from

One row per covered state. "Records" are the public files the state's devices come from; permit lanes add building activity on top of them. Dates are each file's own as-of stamp from our freshness ledger; the state's stamp on every other page is the newest of these.

New York City — elevator device census

Public data sets are published without license requirement or use restrictions; a republisher may be required to identify the source and version of each data set and describe modifications made to it (see the modification note below).

Seattle — conveyance trade permits

The policy's open license permits copying, modification, and commercial use without restriction; the publishing department may require republishers to identify the data set's source and version.

Washington, DC — elevator permits

The District's terms dedicate data to the public domain (CC0 1.0) and ask for credit; the catalog items themselves carry CC BY 4.0. We attribute under the stricter reading and use the District's suggested citation.

The data set is published under a Public Domain license with an attribution field naming the City of Cincinnati; credited here accordingly.

Texas — elevator device census

License: TDLR site policies (copying permission with conditions)

The policy states: "The information posted on a state agency web site may be copied so long as it is presented in a non-misleading way and does not imply that either the site owner or the information, as it is presented on the site owner's web site, is endorsed by the State." and "Use of the information must identify the state agency that is the source of the information, its web address, the date the information was copied from the state agency's web site by the site owner and must be accompanied by a statement that neither the site owner nor the information, as it is presented on the site owner's web site, is endorsed by the State or any state agency." The four required elements (source agency, web address, date copied, non-endorsement statement) are printed with the data.

The policy states: "Applications using data supplied by this site must include the following disclaimers on their sites", and reserves that "The State of Missouri reserves the right to modify and/or discontinue providing any or all of the data feeds at any time". The required disclaimers are reproduced below and wherever Missouri data is shown.

Cleveland — building permits (elevator subset)

Issued Building Permits, City of Cleveland Department of Building and Housing, from the Cleveland open data hub (data.clevelandohio.gov, ArcGIS FeatureServer).

License: Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL)

The data set's license field reads "Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL)" (a bare license name; the hub item links no instrument text). ODbL permits commercial use and derived works, requires attribution, and requires that a derived database be offered under the same license (share-alike). The portal FAQ adds: "The City of Cleveland requests that all users who use data products from this site properly reference the dataset(s) or app(s)."

Contains information from Issued Building Permits, City of Cleveland Department of Building and Housing (Cleveland Open Data), which is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

App-only, no export: because ODbL share-alike attaches to a derived database rather than to the rendered application, Cleveland permit data is viewable inside ConveyanceIQ but is never included in manual exports or any other downloadable extract.

Chicago — building permits (elevator subset)

Building Permits (ydr8-5enu), elevator permit type and elevator-contractor contacts, from the Chicago Data Portal (data.cityofchicago.org).

License: City of Chicago Data Terms of Use (dataset license field: SEE_TERMS_OF_USE)

The data set's license field defers to the City of Chicago Data Terms of Use, which require a disclaimer to appear verbatim wherever a derivative application is accessed or downloaded. The Terms' text could not be retrieved at verification (the page returned HTTP 403) and is therefore not reproduced here; until it is, every surface showing Chicago-derived data points to the governing Terms instead.

How source data is modified

ConveyanceIQ normalizes each source into a common schema: field names are standardized, addresses cleaned and geocoded, duplicate records collapsed, and company names resolved to canonical servicers. Derived fields — install year, servicer attribution, activity rollups — are computed from the source records and labeled with their provenance. Records carry the source's own as-of stamp where the source publishes one, and each source is refreshed on the cadence in our source registry. No source endorses ConveyanceIQ, and none warrants the accuracy of this derived product.
